Current Services

The Coalition of Mental Health Professionals, Inc. (CHMP) was established in 1992 in response to the insurrection that followed the not-guilty verdict of the officers involved in the beating of Rodney G. King. Realizing that the resulting civil unrest was the product of decades of human neglect, CMHP began its mission by providing emergency short-term counseling and psychotherapy to individuals and groups in South Central Los Angeles.

Since opening our doors in 1992, we have served more than 20,000 members of the community through community outreach, information dissemination, referrals, crisis counseling, psychological evaluations, individual group and family therapy. We subscribe to an Empowerment Model, where individuals and groups discover their capabilities.

Everyday of the year, CMHP impacts the emotional, mental health and life skills needs of the community. The services are bilingual (English and/or Spanish). The Coalition provides:

•Individual and Family Therapy
•Group Counseling
•Crisis Intervention
•Domestic Violence Classes
•Parenting Classes
•Psychological Evaluation
•Psycho-Educational Assessments
•Conflict Resolution
•HIV / AIDS Counseling
•Community Outreach and Education
•Stress Management Workshops/Training
•Critical Incident Stress Debriefing
